The Origin of the ::CHI Squad

The ::CHI Squad was started sometime in January 0f 2001 by a group of students at CHI Institute, a tech school located in Pennsylvania. The group (KrazySnipa::CHI, Eagle::CHI, Guigsy::CHI, NT::CHI, CrazyC::CHI, and Fireball::CHI) started playing in class over the network at first, but battling each other became tiring. The group decided to take their battles online. They started playing in USLF servers 1 and 2, using the ::CHI tag to easily identify each other. After a while, people started to recognize ::CHI as a group of elite players.

It was time…time to start what is now one of the most elite squads in DF2. First, we had to figure out what CHI was going to stand for. The group was in class discussing this when one of the other classmates (not affiliated with the squad) came up with it from out of the blue. So the ::CHI tag became an acronym for Combat Hardened Individuals. On that same day, KrazySnipa::CHI began constructing the website. When it was finished, it was posted on geocities www.geocities.com/chi_squad and the ::CHI Squad became official. Shortly after that we had our first recruit. A regular on USLF servers, Scorpion always tore it up on the battlefields. The group knew that he would be a valuable addition to the squad. Soon after his recruitment, others joined. After a month or so, the squad was up to approximately 12 members. At this time Eagle::CHI was the General, KrazySnipa::CHI and Guigsy were second in command.

The squad kept growing, 3 months had gone by and the squad had 20-25 members. The Generals were having a hard time keeping up. They could not keep up the e-mails, scheduling matches and practices, getting everyone organized, updating the site, etc. Things were starting to slip and they knew that the leadership role had to be passed on to someone dedicated, someone who would make a strong leader. They didn't have squad members like that, so they put names in a hat and Scorpion::CHI was the winner (lol…just kidding). They chose Scorpion::CHI because they knew he would make a great leader and from there the squad really took off. An new website was designed and operated by Scorpion, www.chisquad.homestead.com After that, new ideas were introduced such as ::CTC, a new ranking system, a ::CHI only squad room, and so on.

Now almost a year later, ::CHI Squad as turned into an empire with over 90 members, dedicated ::CHI servers to play on, a website www.chisquad.com, courtesy of ICU::CHI, that is beyond anything the ::CHI Originals could have imagined. And still, we continue to grow…
